Sweet Sorghum Syrup Value Chain
It never existed—and we are building it from scratch.
It never existed—and we are building it from scratch.
Sweet sorghum possesses exceptional carbon‑fixation capacity, reaching peak dry biomass accumulation of approximately 50 g/m²/day, with photosynthetic efficiency approaching the theoretical limit for terrestrial plants.
This biological potential can only be fully realised through industrial processing, where it is converted into standardized syrup that can be stored, transported, and traded.
Sweet sorghum syrup is a sweetener and a high‑quality renewable carbon‑based feedstock, with a value‑chain breadth comparable to that of petroleum and coal.
Food‑grade sweet sorghum syrup—a standardizable industrial intermediate and a core foundation of the value chain.
Current Status
Sweet sorghum isn’t a lagging industry—it’s no industry. And it’s not a challenge—it’s never been industrialised.
In 2018, food‑grade sweet sorghum syrup received EU approval, but its supply chain remains entirely blank.
In 1920, U.S. production reached 49.5 million gallons (about 250,000 tons)—a craft‑based peak. It has since fallen to under 2,000 tons, all from scattered craft operations.
In global literature, industrial‑scale processes, equipment, and harvesting systems are virtually absent.
Building this value chain that has never existed comprises four modules:
Agricultural End — establishing planting, harvesting, and storage pathways to create a predictable feedstock window
Industrial End — building a demonstration line as an industrial reference point and engineering test platform, validating the pathway from feedstock to syrup
Demand End — using food applications as the first validation scenario to confirm the viability of sweet sorghum syrup as an industrial intermediate
Equipment End — developing key equipment, manufacturing in partnership with local equipment suppliers, and building a localised supply chain
Process Validation (2015) ——Validated the foundational sweet sorghum syrup processing pathway.
Breakthrough Insight——Identified the complete absence of a sweet sorghum value chain and defined the scale, direction, and engineering pathway required to build it from scratch.
Equipment Prototype Development——Completed key equipment prototype design and development, including the dedicated sweet sorghum harvester.
Agricultural System Development——Co‑developed planting and harvesting systems with CICYTEX in Spain, establishing the pathway for extending the harvest window.
Establishing the demonstration line: validating the supply chain.
Using the demonstration production line as a reference, we will complete full value‑chain validation from field to market, establish a replicable industrial pathway, build a modern industrial footprint for sweet sorghum syrup in the EU, and open a commercial pathway that has never existed before.
Natural and purely physically processed, with no additives.
Rich in ten essential minerals—including potassium, magnesium, calcium, and zinc—offering a higher nutrient density than common sugars.
Contains higher total phenolics than honey and maple syrup, providing stronger natural antioxidant properties.
At 74° Brix, it maintains long‑term stability without preservatives.
